Placement Tests
South Seattle College offers a small number of placement options for students to get course placement recommendations quickly and easily. We offer placement in math, English, and chemistry via placement test or assessment.
Students should complete at least one placement method before meeting with an advisor or attempting to register for classes. Placement tests are recommended for all students regardless of prior experience at other colleges.
The following placement tests and study guides are available:
- Math Directed Self Placement – A free, online, self-placement tool to assess your comfort with different levels of college mathematics. This assessment is not timed or graded and can be completed anywhere without an appointment.
- English Directed Self Placement – A free, online, self-placement tool to familiarity with college-level writing. This assessment is not timed or graded and can be completed anywhere without an appointment.
- Chemistry Placement Test – A free, in-person placement exam for students who took honors or another higher-level chemistry course in high school. This assessment can be completed by appointment only and may only be attempted once.
Students who placed at MATH093/MATH&146 or MATH102/MATH&141 corequisite courses can follow this link for information on co-requisite course bundles and how to properly register for them.
