Transfer & Other Forms of Credit Assessment
Please be aware that standard evaluations due to limited staffing and increased volume, please expect up to eight weeks for evaluations processing for all document types. Once complete, all students will be notified by email about the status of their evaluation. Please contact the Office of Credential Evaluations at Sevaluations@seattlecolleges.edu if you have questions about the status of your evaluation request.
Current students with college-level credit, test scores, or prior experiential learning can request an evaluation for credit to be applied towards their current program at South Seattle College.
Please review the instructions for the type of document or credit you plan on submitting for evaluation below. When you are ready, please submit an Application for Evaluation of Incoming Credits. Unless otherwise noted, please expect four to six weeks for processing. Requests that cannot be processed will be closed after 30 days.
If you have not been admitted to South Seattle College, please review the steps to enroll for instructions and support on how to enroll. Please be aware that evaluations will not be processed for students who are not pursuing a certificate or degree-granting program.

Delivering Your Official Documents
Required documents can be delivered to the following address on campus:

Official documents can be received by physical mail, electronically (if sent directly by the institution or via secure submission platform such as Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse), or delivered in-person in original, institution-sealed packaging.
Documents delivered in an unsealed or opened state, emailed directly by the student, or in any other manner in which tampering may be possible will not be accepted as official.
Credit Transfer Guidelines and Restrictions
Please review the following guidelines and restrictions. Transfer credit from specific sources may have additional restrictions.
- South Seattle College can accept a maximum of 15.00 credits of coursework completed below a 2.0/C grade. Coursework completed below a 1.0/D grade will not be accepted.
- A maximum of 45.00 total credits can be accepted as test credit, credit by exam, or academic credit for prior learning.
- All certificates and degrees required at least 15.00 credits be completed by the student in-residence (also called “Academic Residency”) at South Seattle College. Credit transferred to South Seattle College from North Seattle College or Seattle Central College will not satisfy any amount of the 15.00 credits required for academic residency.
Coursework completed at colleges or universities recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) can be evaluated for transfer towards your program at South Seattle College. Schools not recognized by CHEA will not be accepted directly as transfer credit.
Please order an official transcript for each school you want evaluated and complete the application for evaluation of incoming credit as described.
South Seattle College must receive an original official transcript for all schools you would like evaluated. We cannot evaluate transfer credit accepted at another institution. You do not need to request transcripts from schools you did not earn credit at or do not want evaluated.
Students who completed coursework at Seattle Central College or North Seattle College do not need to request official transcripts as part of their evaluation. Please continue to submit an evaluation application for these schools.
Coursework completed at colleges or universities outside the United States may be evaluated for transfer towards your program at South Seattle College. Please request a “Course-by-Course" or “Comprehensive” third-party evaluation from one of the following agencies and ensure that a copy of your original transcript is included in your document submission.
Students who completed coursework at a college or university at any United States territory (American Samoa, Puerto Rico, Guam, etc.) do not need to request a third –party evaluation and should follow instructions as described under the standard Transfer Coursework section.
Please complete the application for evaluation of incoming credit as described. Please note that standard processing time for international transfer requests is four to six weeks from the day that all required documents are received. International evaluation requests are held open for 60 days to allow additional time for third-party processing.
South Seattle College considers foreign coursework evaluated by agencies which are certified by NACES® (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services) & AICE® (Association of International Credential Evaluators). Completed coursework will be considered for credit only if the foreign institution is listed in the American Council on Education (ACE) Book.
Credit may be granted for passing scores on exams recognized by the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC).
Please order a copy of your test score report for each type of test you want evaluated and complete the application for evaluation of incoming credit as described. South Seattle College can accept physical score reports sent by mail or delivered in-person in sealed envelopes or submitted electronically by the testing agency.
South Seattle College must receive an original official documents for all tests you would like evaluated. We cannot evaluate test credit accepted at another institution.
Students seeking evaluation from institutions such as Air University or the Community College of the Airforce should follow instructions as described under the standard Transfer Coursework section.
Limited credit may be granted for credit earned from a Joint Services Transcript (JST). Active duty and veteran service members are encouraged to connect with Veterans Affairs at South Seattle College to learn more about other resources.
Please order your JST to be sent to South Seattle College and complete the application for evaluation of incoming credit as described.
Please be aware of the following restrictions on transfer credit from a JST:
- A maximum of 5.00 elective credits can be accepted for an Associate in Science degree.
- A maximum of 15.00 elective credits can be accepted for an Associate in Arts degree.
- A maximum of half of the total required credits for Certificates, Associate in Applied Science, Associate in Applied Science-Transfer, and Bachelor of Applied Science degrees.
- Credit for specialized professional technical programs (Automotive Maintenance, Aviation Maintenance Technology, Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology, and Welding Fabrication Technology) may be granted at the approval of the associated department.
Credit may be granted for demonstration of on-the-job skills, completion of relevant training, and industry-specific certificates that can be mapped to the completion of core outcomes for certain courses at South Seattle College. Prior learning assessments are offered at the discretion of the presiding faculty member.
Please follow the instructions listed on the Application for Credit for Prior Experiential Learning form. The portfolio review carries an additional fee, which is separate from tuition and calculated separately for each course requested. This form of credit evaluation does not require the completion of an Application for Evaluation of Incoming Credit.
Please be aware of the following restrictions on transfer credit from an ACPL:
- A maximum of 5.00 elective credits can be accepted for an Associate in Science degree.
- A maximum of 15.00 elective credits can be accepted for an Associate in Arts degree.
- A maximum of half of the total required credits for Certificates, Associate in Applied Science, Associate in Applied Science-Transfer, and Bachelor of Applied Science degrees.
Credit may be granted for successfully passing a challenge exam at South Seattle College.
Please follow the instructions listed on the Application for Course Challenge. Course challenge carries an additional fee, which is separate from tuition and calculated separately for each course requested. Challenge exams are offered at the discretion of the presiding faculty member.
Please be aware of the following restrictions on transfer credit from ACPL:
- A maximum of 5.00 elective credits can be accepted for an Associate in Science degree.
- A maximum of 15.00 elective credits can be accepted for an Associate in Arts degree.
- A maximum of half of the total required credits for Certificates, Associate in Applied Science, Associate in Applied Science-Transfer, and Bachelor of Applied Science degrees.
This type of credit can include on-the-job skills and training that results in applicable course fulfillment in some programs of study. The portfolio review carries an additional fee, which is separate from tuition and calculated separately for each course requested.
For college transfer degrees (Associate of Science, Associate of Arts, etc.) a maximum of 5 and 15 elective credits, respectively, can be accepted. For professional/technical programs (Certificates, Associates of Applied Science and Bachelor of Applied Science) the maximum is 50% of the required credit.
To pursue this option, follow all of the instructions listed on the Application for Credit for Prior Experiential Learning form.
When the Evaluations Office receives your fully completed form, the credit will be added to your academic record and it will appear on your transcript.
