• Students must acquire tools by mid-term of AMT 105 course. Students may refer to the Aviation Maintenance Technology Sample Tool List. Please consult with your AMT 105 instructor for more information.

• All students must obtain textbooks listed on each course syllabus. See individual Aviation Maintenance Technology instructors for current textbook requirements.

Introductory Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) courses are offered in fall or spring quarters.

The Aviation Airframe Tech pathway can lead to various career opportunities.

A Bachelor's degree or higher may be required for some careers listed above.

This certificate is for students focused on learning a skill or technology for immediate employment in the aviation maintenance technology industry.

Credits earned in certificate programs are generally applicable toward an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) or Associate in Applied Science-Transfer (AAS-T) degree.

Math and English placement are required! Use South’s free Math and English Directed Self Placement tools to establish placement.

• Pass FAA exams. (SLO 1.2, 4.1 & 7.2)
• Consistently follow EPA guidelines, shop and personal safety standards set by industry. (SLO 6.4, 6.5 & 7.2)
• Measure weights, temperatures, and speeds. (SLO 2.2 & 2.3)
• Locate and interpret data in manufacturers’ technical manuals. (SLO 7.1)
• Explain terms, processes and systems related to aircraft. (SLO 1.2)
• Demonstrate ability to follow correct troubleshooting procedures. (SLO 7.2)
• Demonstrate ability to run-up, move and tie-down an aircraft. (SLO 5.1)
• Repair generators, alternators, motors, magnetos, and other aircraft units. (SLO 5.1 & 7.2)
• Operate and maintain powerplant reciprocating engines and gas turbine engines. (SLO 7.1)
• Diagnose, repair, replace and overhaul powerplants. (SLO 4.1)
• Apply electrical and magnetic theories and interpret schematics using meters and testing equipment for troubleshooting power plant electrical systems. (SLO 5.1 & 7.1)
• Inspect aircraft for conformity and airworthiness in accordance with FAA and manufacturer's documentation. (SLO 4.1 & 7.2)
• Demonstrate ability to effectively work independently and in groups. (SLO 3.1)
• Demonstrate work ethic and responsibility appropriate to the industry. (SLO 6.4)
