Year 7 Accreditation Information
Understanding the Purpose and Importance of the Year 7 Evaluation
The Year 7 Evaluation of Institutional Effectiveness (EIE) is the culminating step in the accreditation cycle with the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). While accreditation ensures that institutions meet established standards of quality, the Year 7 evaluation focuses more deeply on how effectively we are fulfilling our mission through intentional, data-informed practices.
At South Seattle College, this evaluation is an opportunity to demonstrate how our collective efforts—across instruction, student services, and administrative functions—translate into meaningful outcomes for students and the communities we serve.
What is the Purpose of the Year 7 Evaluation?
The Year 7 evaluation is designed to assess how well the college:
- Fulfills its mission through clearly defined goals and measurable outcomes
- Uses data and evidence to inform decision-making and improve programs and services
- Advances student success and equity, ensuring all students have the opportunity to achieve their goals
- Sustains a culture of continuous improvement, where planning, assessment, and resource allocation are aligned
Rather than introducing new work, the evaluation asks us to reflect on and demonstrate the effectiveness of the work we are already doing.
Why This Matters
The Year 7 evaluation is important for several reasons:
- It affirms the quality and integrity of our institution
Accreditation ensures that South Seattle College meets rigorous standards and remains a trusted institution for students, employees, and the broader community. - It tells our story through evidence
This process allows us to clearly articulate how our work supports student learning, completion, and post-college success—grounded in data and real outcomes. - It strengthens our ability to improve
By examining what is working well and where opportunities exist, we can make more informed decisions that enhance student experiences and institutional effectiveness. - It aligns directly with our strategic priorities
The Year 7 evaluation is closely connected to the Seattle Colleges Strategic Plan 2024–2034 and our local action planning efforts, reinforcing a shared direction across the college.
What This Means for You
Every member of the South Seattle College community contributes to our ability to demonstrate institutional effectiveness.
As we begin this work, you can prepare by:
- Becoming familiar with the college’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities
- Reflecting on how your work supports student success, equity, and continuous improvement
- Being ready to share examples of how you use data, feedback, or outcomes to inform your work
A Collective Effort
The Year 7 evaluation is not owned by any one office or group—it reflects the collective work of our entire campus. Through this process, we have an opportunity to highlight the strength of our practices, the impact of our efforts, and our shared commitment to student success.
