GI Bill® and Financial Aid
Our office provides assistance regarding veteran-entitled benefits, such as, preparing VA application forms and documentation required by the Department of Veterans Affairs. We also provide assistance in documenting military training for college credit.
All veterans expecting to receive VA educational benefits should contact the Veteran Affairs office as early as possible to obtain appropriate forms and instructions. A Veterans Advising/Request for benefits form and your schedule must be turned in each quarter in order to receive benefits for that quarter.
As a veteran, you may also be eligible for a 50% tuition reduction. Basic eligibility requirements are that you need to be a Washington state resident and have received an honorable discharge which must be indicated on the DD 214. For more information please contact the Veterans Affairs office.

Required Documents for Financial Aid
Please have the following documents if you are planning on using GI Bill benefits at South:
- Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the VA
- A copy of your DD214 Member Copy 4 – if applicable
- A copy of your class schedule
- Completed the Quarterly Request Form, required each quarter to receive benefits

Getting Started at South
Need help getting started at South? The Welcome Center offers new Veteran students and/or their dependents guidance and support through the enrollment process. Our Welcome Center staff is ready to answer your questions and help you navigate your Steps to Enroll.
The Welcome Center is your place to get one-on-one help with:
- Navigating the Admission Application
- Clarifying the Steps to Enroll
- Planning around upcoming enrollment dates
- Exploring information about degrees and certificate pathways
- Understanding funding options (FASFA, WASFA, Workforce)
- One-on-one enrollment coaching
- Navigating Veteran student enrollment
To schedule a 1:1 appointment with a Welcome Center staff member for help with getting started at South, please visit our website to complete our Enrollment Coaching Intake Survey. Once you complete the Intake Survey you will be e-mailed a link to our Calendly booking system to schedule your 1:1 appointment either on Zoom or In-Person with our Staff! Please put in the notes you are a Veteran student!
