MCHS faculty and staff maintain high academic expectations. Students are expected to take responsibility for their education, and we treat all of
our students as if they will graduate and be community college bound.
Behavioral Expectations:
MCHS faculty and staff fully expect students to behave like adults and respect
our program's status as a guest on the community college campus. Thus we
maintain a zero tolerance policy for acts such as fighting ~ either physical
or verbal.
Instruction:
MCHS classes are team taught, which allows us flexibility, and interaction
with more students individually. We also cater to a wider range of student
learning styles.
Curriculum:
MCHS programs are committed to providing a multicultural, anti-racist, liberatory
curriculum that encourages students to think critically about themselves
and the world. Some courses are developed as interdisciplinary, coordinated
studies designed to integrate subjects such as Language Arts and Social
Studies into one combined class.
Running Start:
MCHS programs work closely with the community college Running
Start program. Students who pass the
ASSET/COMPASS test and demonstrate classroom maturity will be encouraged to take college courses at SSCC, paid
for by the Seattle Public Schools. These college credits can apply to both a high school diploma and a college degree.
