First Friday Dear Newly Enrolled First Quarter Student,
As a first quarter student, you are invited to attend First Friday – New Student Convocation. Most instructors will be bringing their students to the event but you will need to confirm with instructors before attending.
This event is sponsored by the Office of Student Life and Diversity & Retention and the Student Success Task Force.
First Friday is a half day event in which over 300 fellow newly enrolled South Seattle students gather together for the upcoming academic year. This event is a mixture of ceremonial beginnings and practical information to welcome you to South Seattle.
“Convocation (Latin 'calling together' is a group of people formally assembled for a special purpose.”
The goal of our new student convocation is to prepare students for academic life, obtain study skills, and to develop leadership skills early on in order to get the most out of your college experience. It is vital for students to succeed in higher education, as well as learn those leadership skills that will not only benefit you in your pursuits, but also the larger communities from which you come. It will also be an excellent opportunity to meet fellow students, faculty and learn about student organizations from South Seattle Community College.
