October 26, Monday

Campus Blood and Bone Marrow Drive
At Clocktower Plaza

As you may know, there is a high demand for ethnically diverse blood because citizens that need numerous transfusions require an antigen match.  An "antigen fit" is needed as well as a  matched blood type.  If these two requirements are not met, the body can reject the blood received, which can result in serious health problems or fatalities.   (Info from PSBC website)

If you wish to donate blood, you must be at least 18 years old (if 16 or 17 years old, there is a need for a parental for a consent form). For further information, contact the Puget Sound Blood Center:  http://www.psbc.org/programs/blood.htm

Campus employees:  Washington State Executive Order # 02-01 allows state employees to take paid  release time to donate blood. A blood draw takes about one hour.

Bone marrow registry will also take place on  October 11 . There is a critical need for more volunteer donors. Many patients, especially people of color, cannot find a compatible donor among those on the registry. Patients and donors must have matching tissue types, and these matches are found most often between people of the same ethnic group. A large, ethnically diverse group of prospective donors will give more patients a chance for survival.

Time: 9 am -11:30  am / 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Location: Clocktower Plaza on Campus
